Basic concepts: Web vs. PWA vs. hybrid vs native apps
A quick note on AppStore fees:
- Google cut their fee down to 15% recently (https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/112622?hl=en).
- For Apple, it's still 30% (https://developer.apple.com/app-store/subscriptions/). However, there is an 'App Store Small Business Program' for companies with less than USD $1m in revenues, that comes with 15% fees. https://developer.apple.com/app-store/small-business-program/. It's definitely worth signing up for that.
Here is a slightly updated version of the comparison table
Key point: we can use Bubble to create:
- Web apps
- PWAs (need additional plugins for push and offline capability)
- The web app part of hybrid apps. To create the full hybrid app, we also need an additional app shell with a webview, aka 'wrapper'. We will look into wrappers in a lot of detail in a later section.
